How much good does a do-gooder do . . .

. . . when issues become verrrrry complicated, as when village trustees decide what to do with other people’s money? “Why do you ask?” you ask. Because of what two trustees said at the new-board inaugural meeting.

Trustee Ray Johnson in a truly grand statement:

The village board must continue to work equally on behalf of renters and owners, entrepreneurs and non-profit partners, singles and families, majority and minority, financially comfortable and income challenged, the civically engaged and unengaged, and maybe most importantly, the voter and non-voter.

Trustee Colette Lueck, tersely:

I believe in government. I particularly believe in local government, that it can be a force for good.

Consummations devoutly to be wished. No missionary ever wished more.
